Spoiler for the impatient: the position in my own browser is a flattered one; the free checker shows the one everyone else gets.

I keep catching myself: open Google, type the keyword, spot the site near the top, close the tab happy. Then I remember Google knows my history, location and account — it’s showing me my own bookmarks. Is that a ranking? Not for anyone but me; the honest number is a clean, non-personalized SERP, which is what the free Google & Bing rank checker queries.

What the checker shows

Enter a domain and keyword and the checker queries a clean SERP: the domain’s true top-100 position, the page that ranks, and the full top-10 for context. It also flags whether an AI Overview and a featured snippet sit above the organic results. Flip one toggle for the same check in Bing.

Why your “own” position lies

Browsing history, location and being signed in push a site higher than it ranks for everyone else. “I’m #1” in my own browser and “I’m #8” in a clean SERP is an everyday gap — and the flattering number is probably the one that ends up in client reports (I’ve likely sent one myself). The checker strips personalization and shows the position a fresh user sees.

Bing matters more than it looks

A separate Bing check isn’t a token second engine. Bing powers Microsoft Copilot’s answers, so a Bing position converts directly into the odds of entering Copilot’s AI answer. While everyone watches Google, Bing rankings are an underrated on-ramp to AI visibility — who’s checking Bing today? Almost nobody, which is rather the point!

#1 no longer guarantees the click

The AI Overview flag is the most underrated part of the result. If an AI Overview sits above the organic results, even the top spot bleeds clicks — the answer is already in the SERP. What is “#1” worth when nobody scrolls to it? Holding a position isn’t enough; the site has to be in the AI answer itself. One keyword is a snapshot; the paid audit with weekly monitoring tracks the whole keyword set and alerts you on drops.

Go check one keyword — if it comes back lower than in your browser, welcome to the club!

FAQ

How is the checker different from "just looking in my browser"?

Your browser personalizes results — history, location and being signed in push your site higher than it ranks for everyone else. The checker queries a clean, non-personalized SERP, so it shows your true top-100 position, not a flattered one.

Can I check Bing positions too?

Yes. One engine toggle and the checker returns a live Bing position. That matters more than it looks: Bing powers Microsoft Copilot's answers, so Bing rankings feed directly into your AI visibility.

What's the AI Overview flag in the result?

The checker flags whether an AI Overview and a featured snippet sit above the organic results. If an AI Overview is above you, even the #1 position loses clicks because the answer is already shown in the SERP — a signal to work on GEO, not just position.
